Diploma and Certificate Framing in Metro Detroit, Michigan
Every year, thousands of Metro Detroit graduates earn their degrees from the University of Michigan, Wayne State, Michigan State, Oakland University, and dozens of suburban high schools and community colleges. The diploma they carry home represents years of real work. At Art Accents, we build frames that reflect that investment, using the same preservation approach we have applied to documents and artwork in Metro Detroit for over 38 years.
Why Standard Frames Fall Short for Diplomas
A diploma is printed on paper that reacts to its environment over time. Most frames sold at craft and big box stores include mats cut from wood pulp board that contains acid. That acid migrates into the document, causing yellowing and brittleness that worsens with every passing year. The glass in off-the-shelf frames also offers little to no UV protection, meaning ordinary indoor light slowly fades the ink and the paper surface.
In our experience, most people do not realize the damage is happening until it has already progressed well beyond recovery. Professional framing uses a different set of materials from the start, chosen specifically to stop that process before it begins.
Graduation season fills our schedule quickly each spring. Call or request a free consultation online to discuss your project before turnaround times get tight.
Materials That Protect Your Degree Long-Term
The standard for archival document framing includes acid-free mat board, which neutralizes the acidity that causes paper to yellow and become brittle. UV-protective glazing blocks the specific light wavelengths responsible for ink fade and paper degradation, without noticeably altering how the piece looks on the wall. Conservation mounting secures your diploma to the mat without adhesives that can warp or permanently bond to the paper surface, keeping the document in its original condition.
Beyond preservation materials, the frame itself matters. We carry over 2,000 molding options in our Royal Oak shop, which means there is a frame that matches your style, your school's colors, and the room where it will hang. This is not a situation where you choose from four options on a wall rack.
What We Frame
We frame documents from every level of study and professional achievement: high school diplomas, undergraduate and graduate degrees, law and medical licenses, board certifications, continuing education credentials, and professional certificates. We also frame military service documents, honorary degrees, and academic awards. If the document represents an achievement that matters to you, it belongs in a frame built to protect it for the next several decades.
